The INSPIRE Potentials take their traditional hike to Gruyères

It is now established as a regular event that current INSPIRE potentials fellows and Alumni gather for a hike up to twice a year to meet and exchange around their experience. This last 29th September 2024, a group of four – Lisa Sommer (BM Research Zürich), Elena Acinapura (EPFL), Aditi (EPFL) and Atreyee Basu (Unibas) –, accompanied by Jelena Klinovaja, head of the program, and Marie Le Dantec, Communication and Outreach Officer at NCCR SPIN, met on the train to Broc (Canton Fribourg) to start a beautiful sunny day with a little hike in the Gorges de la Jogne.

It took them about two hours to go through the gorgeous gorges. The first part of their journey started from Broc Chocolaterie and ended up at the barrage de Montsalvens, where they stopped for a picnic. As the rest of the trip involved choosing among several options, the group opted for continuing hiking until Charmey, where they could take a bus to the charming village of Gruyères.

Gruyères being a small town, the group took a quick walk around town before deciding to visit a museum. While part of the group decided to visit the castle, the other part headed to the HR Giger museum. The day could not end without eating one of Gruyères’s specialties: meringue with double cream! The group topped it with a nice hot chocolate and coffee before getting back to their respective quarters.

Once again, the excursion was very successful, including a nice blend of walking in nature, touring villages and visiting museums! The next call of our INSPIRE Potentials fellowship is on December 1st, 2024. Apply if you would like to be part of the next adventure!
