The goal of the NCCR SPIN is to create useful technology, specifically hardware for quantum computing and to transfer state-of-the-art quantum physics experiments from a research laboratory to an industrial setting. The presence of IBM as a strong industrial partner from the start contributes considerably to this process.
The creation of highly functional spin qubits using silicon as host pushes silicon technology to the boundaries defined by size, performance and integration density. Our efforts will most likely lead to innovative advances in silicon fabrication with benefits not only in the realm of quantum technology but also in classical electronics.
A quantum computer requires a host of ancillary technologies which cannot be provided by a single industrial entity. This is an opportunity for start-ups to find their niche. While there are over a hundred quantum startups worldwide, there are very few in Switzerland. The NCCR SPIN will promote commercialization activities and work with existing startups.
Bench2Biz
Bench2Biz is a yearly 2-day Workshop that helps Participants in the early phase of an innovative idea in science and technology are helped to move from an idea to a concept stage, shape their venture ideas, determine the commercial value and marketability of their idea or invention and set the ground of their business plan. The workshop is organized yearly in Switzerland.
