NCCR SPIN welcomes two new members of the SPIN Office
NCCR SPIN is pleased to welcome two new additions to the SPIN Office team.
Marie Le Dantec took up the Communication and Outreach Officer position on August 15, 2022. She is a scientist and a visual communication designer. She started her career with twelve years of study in physics and materials science. After her PhD in materials science, she studied visual communication in Zurich and used illustration to convey complex topics to a lay audience.
Marie loves multidisciplinary projects and had the chance to work at the crossroads of different disciplines, such as visual communication, natural sciences and social sciences. She believes that collaboration between disciplines can drive innovation by having us experience different perspectives and rely on each other’s expertise: “I am very excited to have joined the NCCR SPIN as a Communication and Outreach Officer! I am looking forward to putting both my scientific and creative backgrounds at the service of science communication and developing multidisciplinary projects!”
Carmen Pietropaolo joined SPIN on August 15, 2022, as a Communication and Knowledge and Technology Transfer Officer. She has a PhD in Psycholinguistics and a passion for science, economics, and medicine. Carmen works to enable the transfer of research into the industry and to foster and consolidate relationships between institutions of research, higher education and the private sector. She believes that scientific research can stimulate social innovation and plays a central role in improving equality, health and sustainability. For this reason, she joined NCCR SPIN to spur the development of quantum technology and bring its applications to society: “Quantum computers can help us understand complex problems that are beyond our grasp today.”
She has worked as a scientific coordinator for large interdisciplinary groups and loves to coach PhD students in statistics and empirical research methods. She would spend all her free time in her grandma’s tree orchard, her favorite spot in the world, surrounded by the sweet scent of ripe figs and plums: “no fruit has ever tasted sweeter”.
