SpinQubit5 International Conference in Pontresina

The 5th International Conference on Spin-Based Quantum Information Processing (SpinQubit5) took place from September 5-9, 2022 in Pontresina, a charming alpine town in the Upper Engadine Valley dominated by the breathtaking Bernina Range. The event was highly anticipated after two years of travel restrictions due to the Covid19 pandemic and it drew together the world’s leading scientists working on spin-based qubits. The Pontresina congress center was animated for five full days by 47 invited talks and more than 120 posters. They showed the incredible advances in the field and the efforts to realize reliable spin-based quantum hardware and software that would enable quantum computers to become a reality.

The conference, chaired by Daniel Loss, Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Basel, successfully combined scientific engagement with the new frontiers of research in qubits and social interaction with a lively program providing the attendees with moments of relaxation and enjoyment. The participants had the opportunity to experience the surrounding nature and regain energy for the talks with two highly popular hikes in the Swiss Alps led by Jelena Klinovaja and Dominik Zumbühl. The conference dinner took place in the Brigitte and Henri B. Meier Concert Hall in the Hotel Laudinella in St. Moritz and was opened by a piano concert given by Lukas Loss. He played the Hammerklavier-Sonate Nr. 29, op. 106, a true masterpiece by Ludwig van Beethoven. The virtuoso played with great intensity and unforgettable passion.

The event also gave the opportunity to the industry to present the latest applications in quantum technology at the innovation sessions and exhibition of our sponsors Qblox, Bluefors, Zurich Instruments, Quantum Machines and Basel Precision Instruments.

We thank all the invited speakers and participants for making the conference so vibrant and exciting!

We will keep SPIN Qubit 5, Pontresina, and the Bernina Range in our special memories for a long time, and we look forward to meeting you all again at Spin Qubit 6 to be held in 2024 in Sydney, Australia.
