In the context of this years national day against sexual harassment at Swiss universities, the University of Basels events will be holding several events. We’d like to recommend the following film screening and discussion:
Asynchronous Screening "Picture a Scientist"
Who actually does science? And why is "the scientist" still male in our minds? The documentary "Picture a Scientist" revolves around these questions. It portrays three female scientists on their rocky path in the academic world.
You can find the trailer here.
Note: The film addresses emotional issues such as bullying and discrimination and can be distressing.
The film will be available from 21/3, 6pm until 24/3, 6pm and can be watched individually. To receive a personalised link, please register here.
23/3, 8pm to 9.30pm
Discussion on the film “Picture a Scientist”
In cooperation with the Think Tank Gender & Diversity and Faculty of Science of the University of Basel
In order to discuss what we have seen, we will meet for an exchange round on Zoom. We want to focus on the question to what extent the American conditions depicted in the film also apply to Switzerland and the University of Basel. Are there any other dimensions of discrimination that are neglected in the film? We want to discuss this and more with our exciting guests from different levels and areas of the Faculty of Science.
